Today, too few teachers understand science-based sequencing and alignment and fewer still offer whimsical practices with equal space for challenge and rest.

Timshel Power Yoga was founded on the belief that yoga can be adapted for everybody no matter age, skill, mobility, or size. Led by veteran teacher James Richardson, our virtual studio is a place for students to be in and with their bodies while testing the boundaries of what they believe is possible.

Our classes—Advanced, Intermediate, Foundations, Slow Power, Core, and Stretch—are steeped in the tradition of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, the system of yoga that popularized Surya Namaskar (or Sun Salutations) in the West.

But where Ashtanga can be rigid, Timshel Power Yoga is playful. Meet us on your mat, we’ll be here when you’re ready.


James Richardson is a passionate teacher and student of Pantanjali’s eight-fold path, a comprehensive system of self-actualization.

He offers his students a vigorous, classically-rooted experience that blends the tradition of alignment with modern sequencing and functional mobility and strength drills.

His teaching style is grounded in approachable but precise alignment with an emphasis on bandhas and breath manipulation. He teaches to the traditional Ashtanga Sanskrit count (i.e., ekam, dve, trini), but believes that music is mood and plays up-tempo, energetic tunes. In the same class, you’ll hear EDM or tropical house while practicing fundamental postures before later learning Nadi Shodhana or Ego Eradicator.
